2009 Good Jobs, Green Jobs Conference
February 3-6, 2009

Co-owners of Tymel Style, LLC, Tyra Hodges and Melissa Parker, attended the Good Jobs Green Jobs Conference in Washington, DC. The 2009 Good Jobs, Green Jobs National Conference brought together over 2,000 prominent leaders from the labor movement, businesses, environmental organizations and community groups, as well as elected officials, to forge an agenda for transforming our economy through innovative environmental solutions. The purpose of the event was to focus on creating jobs, increasing energy independence, reducing global warming and facilitating the dramatic expansion of clean energy and green technology markets.

Tymel Style was recently accepted into the Green For All Business Protégé Program – an incubation program focused on mentoring start-up, minority-owned businesses. Green For All is a national organization dedicated to building an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty. By advocating for local, state and federal commitments to job creation, job training, and entrepreneurial opportunities in the emerging green economy, Green For All fights primarily for people from disadvantaged communities. The organization was founded by New York Times bestselling author, Van Jones, whose book The Green Collar Economy has been recognized as a leading resource in the environmental movement.
Green For All played a major role in the conference -- they conducted four workshops, the closing plenary session, two hip hop shows, a business reception, a booth at the expo, a welcome reception, and a lobby day on Capital Hill. Among this year's conference sponsors were BP, The United Steelworkers Union, Sierra Club, ArcelorMittal, Alcoa, Inc., Alliance for American Manufacturing, and the Blue Green Alliance.
